About the Single

We are truly proud to present “Roses by the Creek,” the debut single from Homesickness’ upcoming second album, “Anamnesis” (March 21, 2025). A lush, warm, and free-flowing piece of jazz-inspired chamber-folk—perhaps reminiscent of a blend of the late ’60s/early ’70s Laurel Canyon folk rock scene (Crosby, Mitchell), British folk rock (Pentangle, Nick Drake), and the spacious, improvised quality of Talk Talk’s “Laughing Stock”—“Roses by the Creek” is described by composer, painter, and lyricist Malthe Junge as “an auto-prophetic letter” about “trusting the passing.” Junge writes, “For here I stand—yet again—looking into the exact same abyss (…) with deep fear of a fall—a fall that I have now been forced to take (…) I have quit my job, abandoned the hope of further education, and have slowly begun a transition into a rural life, healing by coexisting closely with nature.” A deeply personal and touching reflection on “leaning into the unknown,” Junge speaks of years of being “kissed and struck by storms and high waters,” searching for a path where he can finally “walk the earth and carry my child without anxiety or hurt.” With its gorgeous, rich instrumentation (including Rhodes, flute, Patrick Rathbun on violin and the backing vocals of Sophia Luna Portra), elaborate arrangements, and a rustic, serene ambiance, “Roses by the Creek” almost therapeutically conveys this exact sense of tranquility, natural beauty, and simplicity. A simply stunning piece of music.
